YR Media Election Coverage 2024

Project Overview:
In response to the historic transition during the 2024 U.S. presidential election, YR Media, under the content leadership of Pedro Vega Jr. during his tenure as Chief Programs and Content Officer, launched a comprehensive, real-time coverage campaign in tandem with an election coverage giving initiative. This dual approach was designed to capitalize on the momentum of the election while elevating youth voices and increasing donor engagement.

Our Approach:
When President Biden stepped down from re-election, YR Media quickly mobilized its content and design teams to launch unprecedented coverage of the election. Key aspects of the campaign included:

  • Real-Time Reporting: YR Media delivered up-to-the-minute updates on breaking news, debates, and significant election events, with live coverage from the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. This coverage was driven by youth reporters, offering fresh perspectives on the rapidly shifting political landscape.

  • Style Guide and Component Library: Pedro led the creation of a style guide and component library, empowering the design team to rapidly produce cohesive, visually consistent graphics for election coverage. This system ensured that content creation could keep pace with real-time developments without sacrificing quality or brand alignment.

  • Social Media Strategy: A suite of social media assets, tailored for breaking news and live debate events, was developed to engage audiences across multiple platforms. The campaign included dynamic content updates, ensuring audiences were constantly connected to the election as it unfolded.

Giving Campaign:
The election coverage was launched in tandem with a targeted giving campaign, urging donors and supporters to contribute during this critical election season. The campaign emphasized the importance of amplifying youth voices, which played a vital role in covering the election. This strategic alignment of content and fundraising led to increased donations, particularly through social media platforms, highlighting the importance of youth journalism.
